Best Hookah Accessories (2026): 10 Worth Buying First

Most hookah problems aren't the hookah. Harsh first pulls, coals dying halfway, juice in the stem, a hose that tastes like last week: each one has a cheap fix. This list ranks the 10 accessories worth buying, in the order we'd buy them, with the one we'd pick from what's in stock. For the full range by category, see our hookah accessories page.

Short on time?

Start with an HMD and a coal burner. Those two fix more sessions than everything else on this list combined.

1. A Heat Management Device

An HMD sits on the bowl and holds the coals at a set height, so the heat stays steady and you stop cutting and poking foil. It's the biggest single upgrade for most setups. The Apple on Top Provost III ($29.99) is where we'd start: it comes with two rings to fit most bowl sizes, and you adjust heat with the vents instead of moving coals. If you want a heavier device that also cuts down on ash reaching the shisha, the Kaloud Lotus I+ ($54.99) is the step up. Check bowl fit before you buy, since not every HMD fits every bowl. More options: heat management devices.

2. An Electric Coal Burner

Natural coconut coals won't light with a lighter, so if you use them you need a burner. The Fumari Coal Burner ($19.99) has a coiled element, a temperature knob and carrying handles. If you use quick-light coals, you can skip it. Not sure which coals to run? Read our coconut vs quick-light coals comparison.

3. Tongs

You'll flip coals on the burner and move them on the bowl every session, so get tongs that grip a cube without crushing it. The Fantasia Gravity Hookah Tongs ($13.99) are stainless steel and hang off the tray, so they're never lost on the table. More styles: hookah tongs.

4. A Coal Carrier

A carrier moves lit coals from the burner to the bowl in one trip. It's a small purchase that saves a dropped coal on the carpet. We'd pick the Pharaoh's Coal Carrier ($14.99). More options: coal carriers.

The Beginner Hookah Set ($207) puts a hookah, foil, coals and a Fumari Coal Burner in one box.

5. A Packing Fork

An even, fluffy pack is half of a good session. The Fumari Pakman ($17.99) has a three-prong fork that spreads the leaf without packing it down, plus a poker for clearing holes. More options: forks and pokers.

6. A Molasses Catcher

A catcher sits between the bowl and the stem and catches juice before it runs into the stem and base. That keeps the stem cleaner and cuts down on ghosting, when an old flavor carries into the next session. It matters most with juicy blonde leaf. The Universal Molasses Catcher ($17.99) is aluminum and comes in several colors. More options: molasses catchers.

7. A Better Hose

If your hose still tastes like last week's flavor, replace it. The Hookah Vault Hookah Hose ($29.99) is our own: 84 inches long, with a handle that comes apart for cleaning. More options: hookah hoses.

8. Cleaning Brushes

Residue builds up in the base and stem and dulls every flavor after it. The AO Flexible Base Brush ($9.99) bends to reach the curve of the base; add the Base Cleaning Brush ($6.99) for straight sides. Our hookah maintenance guide covers how often to clean what. More options: cleaning supplies.

9. Spare Grommets

When a bowl, hose or base stops sealing, the draw gets weak and airy. A new grommet usually fixes it. At $1.50, keep a couple of Bowl Grommets in the drawer. More sizes: grommets.

10. Mouth Tips

If you share a hose, give everyone their own tip. B2 Silicone Mouth Tips ($5.99) are washable and fit most hoses; 320 Disposable Mouth Tips ($5.99) are single use for parties. More options: mouth tips and mouthpieces.

Nice to Have, Not Essential

What You Can Skip

If you buy an HMD, you don't need foil or a foil poker. If you only run quick-light coals, you don't need a burner. And you don't need everything on day one: our hookah checklist covers the bare minimum to start.
